The Parish of St Matthew's Harwell with All Saints' Chilton is in the Diocese of Oxford and the Archdeaconry of Berkshire and is part of the Wallingford Deanery. Together with other local churches they form part of Churches Together in Didcot.

Nestling in the Oxfordshire countryside below the Ridgeway, All Saints' Chilton in Chilton Village is South of St Matthew's Harwell.

The villages of Harwell and Chilton sit either side of the vast estate of scientific laboratories. Originally occupied solely by the United Kingdom Atomic Energy Authority, today it includes the Medical Research Centre, Rutherford Appleton Laboratory and latterly the Diamond Light Source.

Both villages are steeped in history and Harwell Village celebrated its Millennium in 1985.  Two large tapestries to mark the event hang either side of the nave in the church.

Both St Matthew's and All Saints' churches date back to 12th century each with its own historical record.

The villages have changed and grown over the years  to accommodate many people working at the scientific site or enjoying the beauty of the surrounding countryside whilst still living within easy reach of London.

Both churches maintain a keen interest in village life and through the residents of both villages seek to pursue the churches' vision, 'Sharing life at the heart of the community, making followers of Jesus'.

Harwell & Chilton churches both carried out congregational and community surveys in November 2009. To read the results, click here.
