Mission Focus for July 2014 - Christine Perkins, Pioneers International

As former teacher at Didcot Girls School and a youth leader at St Matthew’s, Christine has been supported by our churches financially and through prayer for many years. She has spent much of her adult life in Africa, mainly working in education. In 1985 she went to Khartoum in Sudan, becoming head of the primary section of an international school and taking much responsibility for the recruitment and care of teachers. She also worked with the wife of a pastor from the Nuba mountains to develop a sewing training programme and set up a small sewing business. With the creation of the new nation of South Sudan she moved to Nairobi in Kenya but maintained her links with South Sudan, travelling extensively there in support of education programmes and as the East Africa Area Leader for Pioneers International.

Pioneers, Christine’s parent organisation, is an evangelical mission movement. It has 2,600 international members serving on 250 teams in 100 countries, covering 180 people-groups in 100 languages. It has been active for over 35 years and has a passion to reach those who are physically and spiritually isolated from the gospel of Jesus. More information can be found on the websites www.pioneers.org and www.pioneers-uk.org and on the display in church.
