'Cally cards'

dahlTwo young people from Chilton, Caitlin and Ellie, have started a small business in which they are making cards and other items which they would like to sell and then give half the money they raise to Roald Dahl's Marvellous Children's Charity. This charity works to help children who are seriously ill. All items are made to order with cards ranging from £0.75 to £1.50. Caitlin and Ellie also make smoothies, cookies, coasters and bracelets. Please contact them by e-mail, callythebusiness@gmail.com to let them know that you are interested and they will contact you to discuss your requirements. All business will be conducted under the supervision of their parents. Thank you.

Fairtrade stall

Fairtrade stall, Sunday 2nd June, St. Matthew’s Church after the 11am service.

Norman Russell thanks

norman-russell“As you know, a farewell service was arranged for me last Sunday at Reading Minster. I was humbled by the number of friends and well-wishers from across the Archdeaconry who were present and even more humbled by the very generous farewell present as I prepare for retirement. In the nature of things, I do not know who to thank – I guess a number of individuals and a good number of PCCs, so I would be very grateful if you could help me by expressing my gratitude in whatever way is appropriate for your parish(es). It has been a great privilege to have been the Archdeacon of Berkshire for the past fifteen years and to have worked with so many Christian communities and so many wonderful people. Very best wishes, Norman.”

Help needed - All Saints'

cleaningWe have a small, dedicated team of volunteers who regularly clean All Saints’ Church and keep it looking neat and tidy. They usually devote an hour or so every six weeks to this task. If you feel you could spare some time to help us and would like to join our team you would be very welcome. Male or female no experience needed! Please contact: Naomi, 820491 or naomi.gibson@talk21.com or Avril, 831117 or avril_butler@btinternet.com

Fledgelings

Peep-poEvery Monday morning from 9.30-11.30am, for pre-school aged children and their parents and carers. We have plenty of time for free play (for the children) and chatting (for the grown-ups), as well as activities such as play-dough, painting, craft and sometimes even cooking! And of course tea, coffee, and biscuits! We meet at St Matthew's Church Hall during term-time. Just turn up - everyone welcome!

New logo

logosYou may have noticed a different church logo on the front page of this noticesheet. The old logo has been in use for some years and a couple of new design options have been used on the noticesheet for a few weeks. We are now inviting people to feed back thoughts on the designs before any decision is taken by the PCCs at their meeting in June about any change. If you would like to contribute (anonymously or otherwise), please use a comment slip and place it in the box at the back of church, or leave your comments on the website by Fri 31st May here: hcchurches.org/logo.

Songs of Praise 26th May

sopSunday 26th May at 4.30pm on Harwell Recreation Ground sees the return of the popular Songs of Praise event that for a number of years preceded the Harwell Feast. It will be held in a large marquee and will feature a series of hymns and songs chosen by individuals from Harwell and Chilton along with short interviews of those participating to speak about their faith and the reason for their choice of hymn/song.

Please put the date in your diary, invite your friends and neighbours and think about how you might be involved  - we will need musicians, help decorating the marquee, help with refreshments, and various other roles.

Return Scheme

NeighbourhoodReturnLogoLove - and Return - thy Neighbour. That’s the aim of the new Neighbourhood Return scheme, which aims to act quickly to find people with memory problems, such as dementia, who have got lost. We are looking for volunteers to join searches in their immediate area, who have a mobile phone which is regularly charged and has credit on it, and who can use text messaging.

We know everyone isn’t available all the time, so the scheme aims to sign up as many volunteers across Oxfordshire as possible. If you aren’t available when we alert you to someone missing, just text back ‘no’. If you are free to help, our care centre will let you know where to search.

You can sign up to the scheme at www.ourturn.org.uk or by phoning 0116 229 3118. This isn’t a huge commitment. You will rarely or may never be called to help, but by registering, not only will you help carers to feel supported by their local community, but should someone in your local area go missing you could help save a life. If you are a carer of someone with memory problems, you can register them using the contacts above. It’s free.

Helping you keep up to date

formsThe PCCs have agreed that Combined PCC and individual PCC minutes will be made accessible to anyone via the website and displayed in the church porches (the most recent set only in the porches). Due to the length of time before minutes are  officially approved at a subsequent PCC meeting, minutes which have been reviewed by PCC members by email are to be shown in the meantime. These minutes will be labelled “subject to formal approval”.

Connect - Sunday afternoons

connect invitation 500x285
‘Connect’ launched in January and meets from 4.30-6pm at Chilton School in term-time. ’Connect’ is intended to be accessible to all ages and involves optional activities such as crafts, a ’Thought for the day’ on a Christian theme, and a shared cooked meal. It is informal, interactive and fun. All are welcome, and is intended to be of particular interest to the new residents of Chilton Field. Do please come along. If you would like to be involved in helping with any aspect (e.g. set-up, publicity, cooking, craft), please speak to Jonathan.
